  • MAS Now Accepting Submissions for the 2012 MASterworks Awards

    MAS is now accepting nominations for our annual MASterworks awards. Each year, MAS honors the major players behind the year’s top building projects in New York City. The awards are presented to people and projects that exemplify excellence in architecture and urban design, and that make a significant contribution to New York’s built environment.

  • 2012 JKO Medal Will Honor Joan Ganz Cooney and Peter G. Peterson

  • St. Vincent’s Approved by CPC, What Will the City Council Do?

    On January 23, 2012, the City Planning Commission (CPC) voted to approve the application submitted by the Rudin Management Company to redevelop the site of the former St. Vincent’s Hospital on West 12th Street and Seventh Avenue. The development includes 450 apartments with retail on the East Site and new open space on the Triangle Site (see map below).   • A Claim of Hardship is Disputed

    Two landmarked buildings on the Upper East Side are threatened with demolition because the owner is making a claim of economic hardship. The two buildings in question were built at the turn of the 20th century, and as part of First Avenue Estate complex, are important for their innovative design as well as in their role in social housing reform. MAS has long been a supporter of its designation and even filed an amicus brief upholding their landmark status.
